Hi there and welcome to ‘Peak Biohacking’. Chances are that you found this site as you have come to a period in your life where you know you need to make a change to optimize your health or the way you look, feel or perform in some way or another. Perhaps you have heard about biohacking but aren’t sure what it is or if and how it could help you and so have begun the quest for information to understand how it could help you.
I was in the exact same situation not that long ago. My journey into the biohacking world began at the age of 43. During my 42nd year of life I thought I had everything more or less sussed. I was doing well in my tech corporate job, had lots of energy, was happy, looked ok for my age and was still being asked for ID when trying to buy alcohol in the supermarket (the legal age is 18 in the UK) – get in! Then boom…..
At age 43 I lost a baby and was referred to in the hospital as a ‘Geratric Mum’ (are they even still allowed to say that?), lost all my confidence, struggled with severe anxiety, was depressed (although I refused to take chemical antidepressants), had severe brain fog to the point of barley being able to do my day job, was diagnosed with stress related IBS, developed bad skin for the first time in my life and basically had all the hormone imbalance nasties associated with the perimenopause. To cap it all off I looked in the mirror one day and hardly recognised myself. I knew something had to change.
I set off on a mission to turn my situation around somehow and came across Biohacking. I used to think this was for fitness crazy alternative type people of which was really not me. However, I was wrong and there is so much more to this. During the last few years I have learnt so much about biohacking which has blown me away and literally become life changing for me. Who knew we had all this science and technology at our fingertips which is hardly spoken about in the mainstream. Not only that but it’s not just for the wealthy, in fact there is a lot that’s totally cost free! (and a lot in between) I have also tried so many products, lifestyle tweaks, practices, some of which were total rubbish which I’ll share with you and some which were truly game changers. Who knew that we could effectively reverse our biological age. I’m still in shock at the impact small changes can make. My current personal mission is every year to look and feel younger and better than the year before and so far I believe it is working.
When I went out for dinner with my girl friends, instead of conversations largely being dominated with conversations about hot sweats, eyesight and hearing degeneration, weight gain, sleep and gut issues and all the other associated problems women like us flirting with the perimenopause era it took a turn. They began to ask what I was doing differently and how I seemed to have become the female version of Benjamin button – ha! I’ll take that! When I told them they said that they wish they had the time and energy to go and research all this stuff. That made me think that I should pull together everything I have learnt on this journey for them and for others who need all the information, none of the marketing rubbish and honest opinions and reviews so that they can make quick well informed decisions on where they could take biohacking. Thus this blog was born and my latest mission to positively improve as many other lives as possible.
